Why Is My Heat Pump in Bonita Springs, FL, Leaking Water?

Temperatures in Bonita Springs, FL, can fluctuate between chilly and hot in the fall. That makes a heat pump the perfect HVAC solution for either air conditioning or heating your house. If your heat pump is leaking water because of one of these reasons, don’t hesitate to schedule a repair right away:

Leaking Heat Pump Has Low Air Pressure

There are a few reasons you might have low pressure within your system, but the two most common are a dirty air filter or a leak in your ductwork. In either case, the low pressure causes water vapor to condense around the coil and form ice. When your heat pump eventually stops, the ice will melt and leak the water onto the floor.

When the low pressure in the system stems from a dirty air filter, you might have a second problem. A dirty air filter could indicate poor indoor air quality. One of our service technicians can let you know if this is the case.

Dirt on the Heat Pump’s Coil

Dirt on the coil can collect moisture from the air, too. When it does, the refrigerant that flows through the coil freezes that moisture, which will then drip onto the floor when the ice melts.

Problem With the Drainage System

Your heat pump will have some way to get rid of water naturally. Usually, this is a combination of a drain pan and a hose or pipe. If something clogs any of these items, the water will back up and drip onto the floor. The same holds true if any of these components gets a crack or a hole in it.
